Adam Lambert: "There were plenty of times when I thought I wasn't going to make it"

Adam Lambert has admitted that he was often left doubting whether he would make it in the music industry.

The singer shot to mainstream fame after he finished runner-up on the 2009 American Idol series, but it wasn't always plain sailing.

In an interview segment shown at last night's (May 1) iHeart Radio Music Awards, the vocal powerhouse said that he initially found it hard to make ends meet after moving to Los Angeles.

Lambert said: "There were plenty of times when I thought I wasn't going to make it. When I first moved here, after high school, I moved into an apartment in North Hollywood that I could afford, which was like this big - I didn't have much money, or much food in that apartment.

"I thought 'am I doing the right thing, am I in the right town, am I supposed to go and find some job that's practical or do I keep chasing this crazy gypsy thing that I want, this artist's life?'. I kind of figured that if I get practical and go get a real job, I still don't think I'm going to be happy, so I decided to stick it out. I'm glad a did."

Lambert attended the awards ceremony in person and dazzled the red carpet with a green suit.

The singer posted a photo of himself from the ceremony on his Instagram, which can be seen below.
